Today’s iMovie ’11 Essential Training covered all aspects of working with video. We looked at Organizing Clips, Editing Video, and Working with Effects.
Some notes on these chapters include: (1) you cannot tell which keywords have been assigned to clips until you click View/Playhead Info on the menu bar; (2) the people finder feature is not perfect; it won’t find hands or feet; (3) if you have events on an external hard drive, it must be connected to your computer in order to be able to view footage you’re using; (4) iMovie doesn’t have its own trash system; deleted clips are sent to the system trash; (5) generally footage is shot at 30 frames per second; (6) in adding or assembling clips into your movie, a good mantra is “get to the good stuff!”; (7) fine tuning clips doesn’t make your movie longer or shorter because clips adjust with the change(s) you make; (8) corners on split footage are straight; (9) zooming too much can make footage grainy; (10) iMovie is for people with little to no editing or computer skills; (11) photos should be imported to iPhoto first and then imported to iMovie; and (12) green/blue screen effects are really cool!
At this point, I had already begun playing with the built-in iMovie themes, so I had already used some of the features covered in these chapters. For instance, I have adjusted the color and stabilized the clips I’ve used in my movie, which is called Surf Dude and makes use of the exercise video clips we were given as training materials.
